Love Those Gravel Pits 06/17/11

Aaron Hamman and I when out to "The Pits" after work. Here's our bring home catch. We caught some others but they were not keepers. Aaron had a nice Pike on but he was using Mono (Rockie). The channel cat was caught on a in-line spinner while trolling at max speed, go figure. The Pike was on the old watermelon red chomper.

Today's Catch...

Only caught two keepers today but the action was HOT. I caught a lot of fish but most were small ones but I had fun. Life is good.

The Mixed Bag

I've been wanted to launch Spare Change (my boat) in my favorite gravel pit out in Jenison, well today I did for about (3) hours and caught a mixed bag. (2) Pike 25 and 26 inches, (2) Largemouth bass 14 and 15 inches and one Crappie. The water levels were way up and the water was cloudy, however I manage to get some action anyway.

Bass Opener Success

This weekend was opener for Bass. I took my youngest daughter (Mikayla) bluegill fishing. We were using waxworms and caught good numbers. However, while fishing for gills, MJ landed this 16 in largemouth with the ol classic Zebco 33 (I love those rills). In any case the bass hit the waxwarm and started taking drag. He came up head shaking, and mouth wide open, in my head I was like "please dont come off, please dont come off". I landed the fish for her at the boat and I cannot tell you who had the biggest smile, me or her.

1st Gills this year (2011)

When out to Deans Lake tonight bass fishing but saw the Bluegills on their beds. So you know me, I'm a numbers guy, I put down the bass gear and caught some gills. I did not limit out because I ran out of time and bait. I caught lots of small ones but these are the ones that are going in the freezer...

I'm officially ready for the season now...

Well it looks like Spare Change fits in the new truck, it's tight but it fits. So I guess I'm ready to for fishing season 2011. I just need a little help from mother nature to melt the ice. I'm thinking Deans Lake for pike for my first outing.

Winter blues....

Well I'm about tired of winter. I have the winter blues and can not wait until Spring. I just spent about $100.00 on tackle so I'm ready, just waiting on Mother nature to turn the page.
